Clem's Seafood is looking to hire a Commercial Fisherman. This dynamic role involves operating fishing vessels, managing catch, and ensuring the highest standards of safety and efficiency on the water.
Responsibilities
- Operate fishing vessels safely and efficiently during all phases of commercial fishing trips, including navigation, gear handling, and catch retrieval
- Maintain and inspect fishing equipment, gear, and vessel systems to ensure optimal performance and safety standards are met
- Monitor weather conditions continuously to plan routes and fishing schedules that maximize catch potential while prioritizing safety
- Manage onboard catch processing, including sorting, storing, and preserving seafood according to industry standards
- Record detailed logs of fishing activities, catch quantities, locations, weather conditions, and vessel maintenance for compliance and reporting purposes
- Adhere strictly to local, state, and federal fishing regulations to promote sustainable practices and avoid penalties
- Collaborate with crew members to execute tasks efficiently, maintain a clean work environment, and ensure safety protocols are followed at all times
Qualifications
- Prior experience in commercial fishing or related maritime roles is highly desirable
- Strong knowledge of fishing gear operation, vessel maintenance, and navigation techniques
- Ability to work long hours in challenging weather conditions with physical stamina and resilience
- Excellent teamwork skills with a proactive attitude towards safety and problem-solving
- Basic understanding of environmental conservation principles related to fisheries management
- Certifications in first aid or emergency response are a plus but not mandatory
